Prime Minister Spajić Advocates for Increased Women’s Involvement in Politics

In a video address to the Committee on Gender Equality, which is currently assessing a proposal to raise the quota for the underrepresented gender in electoral law from 30% to 40%—with the additional stipulation that at least one in every three candidates on electoral lists must belong to the underrepresented gender—Prime Minister Milojko Spajić expressed his unwavering support.

“I wholeheartedly endorse increasing the quota for the underrepresented gender from 30% to 40% in the electoral legislation,” stated the Prime Minister in his message to the Chair and members of the Committee.

Spajić conveyed his belief that the Europe Now Movement (PES) is already embodying this principle, pointing out that 40% of the PES ministers in the current Government are women who, as he noted, manage their ministries with significant competence—often surpassing their male peers.

This initiative seeks to provide more opportunities for the long-ignored potential of women to be fully realized in shaping public policy and advancing leadership within our nation, he underscored.

The Prime Minister emphasized the critical importance of Parliament taking this step—showcasing the collective strength of our society to transcend stereotypes and adopt the highest European and global standards.
