Currently, Hungary poses a greater challenge, as demonstrated during the 3rd round of the European Championship qualifiers. The “lions” aimed to reclaim their historical prowess against formidable opponents.

The Montenegrin handball team faced their first defeat in the 3rd round of the European Championship qualifiers, with a score of 29:29 in the M:tel “Morača” arena.

Errors and missed opportunities when the rival closed in proved costly for the “lions”.

“Our consistency was lacking, and mistakes were evident throughout the match, along with numerous missed shots. However, EHF weeks are unique and provide limited time for detailed focus. I commend the players for their efforts; they stayed in the game until the end,” said coach Didijed Dinar at the press conference.

Despite the challenges, there were commendable aspects.

“We exhibited bravery, pursued the score, and succeeded in making a comeback. There were positives, including our rotation, which allowed nearly every player to participate,” Dinar added.

The legendary Frenchman marked his debut leading Montenegro in the nation’s largest stadium, experiencing his initial defeat as the “Lions'” coach, while also conveying a message to supporters.

“The atmosphere was electric; the fans served as our eighth player, which contributed to our refusal to concede,” he stated.

Hungary showcased incredible talent with one of the world’s best pivots, Bence Banhidi, while Miklos Rosta impressed with nine goals.

“We were also missing several key players, leaving us at a significant disadvantage,” emphasized Dinar.

How significant was Radojica Čepić’s red card in the 37th minute, especially since he had been instrumental in leading the national team until that point?

“He is undoubtedly a crucial player for us, and his dismissal altered many dynamics,” Dinar remarked.

What do the “Lions” currently need to regain the strength to defeat major teams at “Morača” once more?

“It’s challenging, but that doesn’t imply we lacked the opportunity to surprise and secure a draw today,” Dinar concluded.
