Small States: Catalysts for Cooperation and Exemplars of Swift Transformation

Small states can serve as bridges for cooperation and exemplars of swift and effective transformation, stated Montenegrin Foreign Minister Ervin Ibrahimović.

Today, he took part in a meeting of heads of state and government within the framework of the Games of Small Countries in Andorra, focusing on the theme “Resilience of small European states in the face of global challenges”.

As noted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), this meeting provided a platform to share insights on the current global challenges that small European nations face. Despite their limited resources, these countries have demonstrated their potential to act as catalysts for change on the global stage, leading in areas such as sustainable development, human rights, education, sports, and healthcare.

Ibrahimović emphasized that in the current climate of economic and financial distress, heightened effects of climate change, and overall global instability, hosting such events signifies more than merely a sporting occasion.

He further remarked that discussions among state and government representatives regarding the challenges confronting small European countries affirm their collective efforts to enhance visibility, while also bolstering mutual security, trust, and cooperation.

“Through gatherings like this, we learn from one another and lay the groundwork for collaborative action that transcends our borders,” Ibrahimović noted.

He added that small states can uniquely function as “bridges of cooperation, as well as models of swift and effective transformation.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that a Declaration was adopted following the high-level meeting, advocating for enhanced resilience, improved relations with the European Union (EU) and other European nations, increased cooperation among small European countries, and strong support for peace and stability both in Europe and globally.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Ibrahimović engaged in brief discussions with Prince Albert II of Monaco, the captains-regents of San Marino, Denise Bronzetti and Italo Rigi, as well as with the country’s foreign minister, Luca Beccari.

According to announcements, Ibrahimović is set to meet with Andorran Prime Minister Xavier Espot Zamora and Foreign Minister Ima Tor Faus during his visit in Andorra.

Additionally, Ibrahimović will visit Montenegrin athletes participating in this year’s Small States Games today.
