The latest European exploits of the Adriatic water polo players will kick off in the pool of one of the continent’s most formidable teams.
Champions League action is upon us, and the champions from Montenegro will play their opening match in Budapest against Ferencvaros—scheduled for Wednesday at 18:30.
“There’s no need to discuss Ferencvaros’s quality; this season they’ve bolstered their lineup even further with Dušan Mandić and Edoardo di Soma joining the ranks. Along with established players like Deneš Varga and Luka Damonte, it presents a significant challenge for our team,” stated Jadran coach Petar Radanović.
So, how do the Novljani plan to seize an opportunity on the Danube?
“We aim to put in a solid performance and gauge where we stand against the elite of world club water polo,” Radanović made clear.
Uroš Vučurović is also aware that a tough match awaits the team from our bay.
“It’s a challenging away game, as we’re up against one of the favorites to win the Champions League. They have a roster filled with top-tier water polo players, but we also have our strengths,” commented 21-year-old Jadran player.
And what might those advantages be for the Herceg Novi team?
“Our swimming and rhythm, and if we execute that effectively, we can aspire for a positive outcome. We need to play smart, be patient, focus, and maintain a strong defense,” Vučurović concluded.
Alongside FTC, Jadran will also face splits and Crvena zvezda in their Champions League group.
In addition to the clash in Budapest, Radanović’s squad anticipates two matches in the Regional League this week, both on the road—first against Primorje on Friday, and then against Mladost on Sunday.
