Health Union Rally Scheduled for Thursday

The Health Care Union is set to hold a protest rally tomorrow in Podgorica, specifically at Vektra Square, to advocate for the dignity of nurses and technicians.

The Union of Free Trade Unions of Montenegro (USSCG) has urged its members and all citizens to rally in support of the Health Care Union by participating in the protest, which will commence at 15:30.

According to a statement from the USSCG, it is highly unacceptable that nurses and technicians, who are the backbone of the healthcare system and whose roles demand significant expertise and dedication, have been overlooked for years regarding their working conditions, occupational safety, and compensation.

“The job complexity coefficient is determined not only by educational qualifications but also by responsibility, job complexity, and working conditions. However, the base salary for this profession frequently falls below 600 euros (the lowest minimum wage as a protective category),” the statement reported.

The USSCG highlighted a particularly concerning point: the job complexity coefficient for this profession is approximately ten percent lower than for other employees with comparable qualifications in Montenegro.

“Nurses and technicians merit special attention from policymakers. Immediate actions should be taken to uphold the dignity of their profession, ensure a quality lifestyle, and secure their ongoing presence both in the country and at their workplaces,” the statement emphasized.

The USSCG noted that any further loss of this invaluable personnel not only signifies a setback for the healthcare system but also impacts society at large.

“We believe that the upcoming protest, a continuation of several months of activities by workers in this sector, will serve as a crucial alert to decision-makers. It is imperative to adopt a responsible approach in finding solutions to rectify the longstanding inequities faced by nurses and technicians. We extend our full support to their union and their struggle,” declared the USSCG.
