All individuals involved in the murder of Jovanović must face appropriate consequences.

The leader of the Civic Movement URA, Dritan Abazović, stated that all individuals involved in the murder of Dan’s editor-in-chief, Duško Jovanović, should face proper consequences, asserting that it was a state-sanctioned act.

During a tribute at the site of Jovanović’s assassination 21 years ago, Abazović expressed disappointment over the ongoing lack of expected answers.

“I firmly believe this murder bears the mark of the state. I urge the authorities to utilize existing materials from the prosecution, along with testimonies from those who have previously come forward, to connect the dots and help Montenegro achieve justice,” Abazović remarked.

He emphasized that resolving Jovanović’s murder is crucial for any meaningful advancements in justice.

“Without addressing this case, any aspirations to become part of a larger European community will be in vain. I understand it may provoke significant political upheavals, but it is a debt we owe to Jovanović, his family, and the truth,” Abazović added.

He reiterated that everyone involved in this heinous crime must be held accountable.

Podgorica’s Mayor, Saša Mujović, alongside his deputies, Nađa Ljiljanić and Boris Spalević, also honored Jovanović’s memory.

Mujović remarked that they are commemorating “a remarkable individual who lived during a time that was unkind to freedom and free-thinkers.”

He noted that unfortunately, Jovanović did not witness better and more liberated times.

“The most valuable inheritance a person can possess is the truth, yet that truth can also be a formidable weapon, and it was precisely from this weapon that Duško suffered. May his legacy, unwavering character, and determination to confront the forces of darkness illuminate future generations,” Mujović stated.

Ljiljanić mentioned that a wreath was laid on behalf of the Capital City for a champion of truth during a time when many remained silent.

“We hope that Montenegro will become a nation of justice and that accountability will finally be realized,” Ljiljanić expressed.

She added that by the end of the year, a monument or bust, depending on the family’s wishes, will be erected at the site of Jovanović’s murder.
