Primorac Aims for a Quick Return to the Elite Ranks
The regional A1 water polo league is set to begin, featuring three Montenegrin clubs—Primorac, Budva, and Kataro.
Primorac, who faced relegation from the Premier League last season without securing a single point, has assembled a competitive team. The Kotor club’s primary objective is clear: to reclaim their spot in the top tier. To achieve this, they must finish first in the A1 league.
The A1 league comprises two groups, A and B. Group A includes all three of our clubs, alongside the Slovenian national team, KPK Korčula, Zadar 1952, POŠK, and Medvešćak Zagreb. Group B consists of Vukovi Beograd, Valis Valjevo, Vojvodina, Proleter, and Taš from Belgrade, who replaced Nais from Niš after their withdrawal.
A total of four tournaments will take place, with the first one scheduled from Friday to Sunday in Kotor.
The Kotor derby between Primorac and Kataro is set for tomorrow at 18:19.50, while Budva will face the Slovenian national team at the same time.
On Saturday, the matches will feature Budva against Primorac and Kataro versus Slovenia. The final day of the tournament will see Primorac playing against Slovenia and Kataro competing against Budva.
The competition format dictates that the top two teams from each group will advance to the finals to compete for the championship title. As traditionally structured, the best teams from the A1 league will move up to the Premier League, while the runners-up will enter a playoff against the second-to-last team from the Premier League for a chance to qualify.
For Primorac, this first regional tournament serves as preparation for the Eurocup group stage, where they will face Trieste, Ortiđa, and Panionios.
Under the guidance of coach Zoran Maslovar, the inaugural game will take place on October 7 at the “Zoran Džimi Gopčević” pool against Trieste.
Primorac will also host in the second round on October 19 against Panionios. Following that, they will have away matches on November 2 and 16 against Ortiđa and Trieste, respectively.
Panionios will welcome Kotor on November 23, and the final round is set for December 9, with Primorac playing against Ortiđa in Kotor. Qualification for the next round will go to the top two teams.
