SC Derbi’s first match in the AdmiralBet ABA League after the break is scheduled for tomorrow (17) in Belgrade against FMP. This match poses a significant challenge for the “students,” who enter with a record of 7-13, trailing their opponents by three wins; however, they previously defeated FMP in the first half of the season with a score of 82:76 in Podgorica.
Historically, SC Derbi has had the upper hand against FMP, winning five consecutive matchups. Their last defeat against the team from Železnik was on December 24, 2022, when FMP claimed victory with a score of 90:73 in Belgrade.
Unfortunately, SC Derbi approaches the upcoming game with some setbacks. Igor Drobnjak has been sidelined since the Montenegrin Cup, while Luka Bogavac picked up an injury during the European Championship qualifiers.
“In recent weeks, particularly since the Cup final against Buducnost, we’ve encountered significant challenges. Our training routine has been disrupted by the number of sick players, and the international break has isolated our national team members, making the current situation far from ideal,” stated SC Derbi coach Petar Mijović in the match preview.
Consequently, SC Derbi will head to Belgrade with a slightly altered lineup.
“We are traveling to Belgrade with several juniors in our squad due to the issues we’re facing, and it’s clear that under these circumstances, FMP rightly holds the favored position. They are a strong and experienced team, athletically proficient in every position. Given the situation, we will prepare as thoroughly as we can and see what we can achieve,” Mijović added.
The coach will be able to count on David Mirković, who recently made his debut for the Montenegrin national team.
“On Sunday, we face FMP, a uniquely experienced team. They play at a fast pace, engaging in numerous counterattacks and one-on-one plays. Unfortunately, some key players who usually contribute points are unavailable for tomorrow’s match, which poses a challenge for us. However, we will not back down; we are prepared, understand what lies ahead, and are aiming for a victory that would be significant for us,” Mirković expressed.
