In mid-June, a campaign to recycle old textbooks and notebooks took place in all primary schools across Montenegro, resulting in the collection of over 61 tons of paper waste, as announced by the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation (MESI).

The initiative, titled “Knowledge is not for throwing away,” was executed on June 12, 13, and 16, successfully gathering 61,160 kilograms of paper waste.

The statement noted, “This marks the successful completion of yet another environmental and educational initiative led by the Deponija company, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources and the Association ‘Roditelji.’

During the three-day campaign, elementary school students were given the chance to take part in environmental conservation efforts by recycling their old textbooks and notebooks.

As a symbolic outcome of this campaign, one schoolyard will be furnished with items made from recycled, eco-friendly materials, thus closing the loop from waste paper to a sustainable and useful function within the school environment.

The government department added, “This initiative is a vital step toward fostering environmental awareness among children and a reminder for everyone that a responsible approach to waste should be a part of our daily habits.”
