The Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Hristijan Mickoski, remarked today that some merchants and retail chains are acting irresponsibly, profiting from the exorbitant prices of goods that citizens have to pay.

“I interpret this as a form of attack on my nation, its people, and our collective integrity. This surge in prices underscores the urgency for decisive, responsible, and transparent intervention,” Mickoski expressed on Facebook.

He emphasized that his administration is fully dedicated to addressing unfair trade practices and exploitation that have direct repercussions on living standards.

Mickoski acknowledged that he understands the call for a market boycott as a gesture of civil resistance against the monopolistic practices and social irresponsibility exhibited by certain traders.

“I am fully aware that some entities are attempting to reap significant profits at the expense of citizens. This behavior is intolerable and will not be accepted!” he declared on his official Facebook page.

He assured that he is implementing tangible measures, having met today with the Commission for the Protection of Competition, the Minister of Economy, the Deputy Minister of Economy, and the Director of Market Inspection, instructing them to enhance oversight and urgently address issues on the ground.

“Their mandate is clear – to monitor traders’ conduct and eliminate any form of exploitation. I will demand transparency and stringent penalties for anyone found violating laws and exploiting citizens and suppliers. We will unite against anyone who believes they can profit at our expense,” asserted Hristijan Mickoski, the Prime Minister of North Macedonia.

Starting yesterday, citizens of North Macedonia have been promoting a social media initiative to boycott supermarkets this Friday (January 31st) due to soaring product prices, following in the footsteps of Croatia.
