The Montenegrin women’s volleyball team kicked off the European U16 Championship in Pristina with a convincing 3:0 win over the host team Kosovo (25:15, 25:12, 25:6).
Under the leadership of Petar Koković, their impressive form from Slovenia continued, where they won all their matches without dropping a set in the second round of qualifiers, marking them as the first Montenegrin volleyball team to reach the European Championship taking place from July 2 to 13 in Pristina.
Our team started strong, taking a 4:0 advantage early and extending it to a five-point lead. Klara Đukić and Elena Jovanović led the charge, and with a five-point streak, the score surged to 19:8. The “reds” wrapped up the first set with a comfortable 25:15 margin.
In the second set, the girls maintained control, turning the score to 5:3 and asserting dominance from the 20th point onward at the “Palace of Youth.” With a stellar 6:0 run, they achieved a double-digit lead for the first time at 18:8. Mija Pođanin, Sofija Duletić, and Jelena Glušac were instrumental in limiting their opponents to just four more points, leading to a decisive 25:12 win.
Montenegro capped off the match decisively—with a +7 lead after 15 points in the third set, they closed it out with an impressive streak of 13 unanswered points, finishing 25:6. The final set shone with strong performances from Staša Jovović and Đina Lekić, who scored six points each, making them the match’s top scorers.
Coach Koković ensured all players had a chance to contribute, with every player scoring at least once. Alongside Jovović and Lekić, Mia Podjanin and Klara Đukić each tallied six points, while Sofija Duletić, Jelena Glušac, and Elena Jovanović contributed five points each.
The match was attended by Nikola Kažić, President of the Volleyball Association of Montenegro (OSCG), Secretary General Ivan Bošković, and Bernard Čobaj, Montenegro’s Ambassador to Pristina.
Tomorrow, Koković’s team will face Hungary at 15:00, who also opened the championship with a sweeping victory. The Hungarians defeated Slovenia, Turkey overcame Greece, and the Czech Republic triumphed over Croatia. The two best teams from the group will advance to the semi-finals in Tirana, while the top six teams in the tournament will qualify for the World Cup.
