“Trieste Has Fallen: Panionios Is Next”
Primorac aimed to maintain their home advantage at the beginning of the Eurocup and achieved that goal in their match against Trieste.
The start was promising, with the Kotor team outperforming their Italian counterpart, securing a 9:8 victory in a match they controlled from the very beginning, earning three valuable points.
Zoran Maslovar’s squad held a four-goal lead at halftime (7:3). In the third quarter, they extended their advantage to three on two occasions, but the game was not without its excitement at the “Zoran Džimi Gopčević” swimming pool in Kotor.
With three minutes left, Trieste narrowed the gap to 8:7, and in the final minute, they reached 9:8, but Primorac managed to navigate the final moments, effectively managing both their offense and defense to secure the win.
The home team could have avoided a tense finish; however, a minute and a half before the end, leading 9:7, they wasted an attack with an extra player when Petar Ćetković hit the post.
Leading the scoring for the winners were Marko Gopčević, Marko Mršić, and Đoršđije Stanojević, each netting two goals. Nikola Marković, Nemanja Vico, and Ćetković contributed with one goal each.
Trieste’s scoring was bolstered by Ray Petronio, Giuseppe Valentino, and Giacomo Bini, each scoring two goals.
Primorac will continue as the host in the next round, welcoming Panionios on October 19, who lost to Ortiđa 13:12 in Italy today.
Following this, matches away against Ortiđa and Trieste are scheduled for November 2 and 16, respectively.
Panionios will face Kotor in their home venue on November 23, with the final round set for December 9, where Primorac will take on Ortiđa at home.
Advancement to the round of 16 will be secured by the top two teams in the standings.
