Sotirovski Stays Silent in Her Defense; Detention Recommended for Her and Other Suspects

Former Mayor of Niš and ex-Commander of the City Emergency Situations Headquarters, Dragana Sotirovski, chose to remain silent during today’s hearing before the Special Department for Suppression of Corruption at the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Niš. Following the proceedings, the prosecution recommended her detention, it was announced today.
According to a statement released on the Prosecutor’s Office website, Sotirovski was interrogated regarding ongoing criminal activities linked to the abuse of her official position.
Additionally, individuals identified as DN and DN from Lalinci, along with ZS from Malošište, were also interrogated and allowed to present their defenses regarding the same offense.
After the hearings, an investigation order was issued for all suspects, and a detention recommendation was submitted to the High Court in Niš, specifically to the Special Department for Suppression of Corruption, as indicated in the statement.
On Friday, four individuals, including former Mayor Dragana Sotirovski, were arrested in Niš on suspicions of abusing their official positions. They are alleged to have incurred damages to the city’s budget exceeding 460 million dinars by circumventing the Public Procurement Law, as announced by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) yesterday.
