The Ministry of Culture and Media (MKM) expressed its concern regarding the detention of Montenegrin filmmaker Danilo Marunović by the Security and Information Agency (BIA) of Serbia.

“The treatment of Mr. Marunović may have been influenced by his public actions and expressions of opinion. We emphasize the fundamental importance of the freedom of thought and expression as universal democratic principles that underpin any modern and responsible state. Moreover, as public figures, we must all uphold mutual respect in our expressions, regardless of differing viewpoints,” stated the MKM, led by Tamara Vujović.

The government department reiterated Montenegro’s commitment to good neighborly relations, mutual respect, and regional cooperation, expressing confidence that this issue will be handled in alignment with these principles.

“The Ministry of Culture and Media, in collaboration with relevant institutions, will keep a close eye on the situation and extend all necessary support to our artist,” the MKM’s statement declared.

Montenegrin director Danilo Marunović was released today from the Serbian Security Intelligence Agency (BIA) following interrogation, and he is required to leave Serbia immediately.

This morning, around nine o’clock, Marunović was taken into custody for an interview at the BIA’s office in Belgrade.

Sources within theater circles informed Vijesti that BIA agents entered Marunović’s hotel room, where he was staying for a guest performance of the play “Gospoda Glembajevi,” produced by the Montenegrin National Theater (CNP), at the National Theater in Belgrade.
