Montenegrin footballer Božo Marković has officially announced his retirement from professional football.

Born in Sutjeska, he made a significant impact there, debuting for the first team in 2007. He has become Sutjeska’s all-time top scorer since independence, earning legendary status among the Nikšić “blues.”

Throughout his time with Sutjeska, he secured three league titles and one cup victory. In the 2020/2021 season, he was the leading scorer in the MeridianBet First Montenegrin Football League.

Marković also represented clubs such as Mladost, Mornar, Dečić AdmiralBet, Jedinstvo-Franca, Arsenal from Tivat, and Čelik, where he concluded his career.

In the all-time scoring rankings for the domestic league, he holds the fourth position. He is surpassed only by Žarko Korać, Admir Adrović, and Ivan Vuković.

“I rarely write, but this time I must reach out to those who love and supported me until the day I retired from my modest but honorable career… Football has shaped and defined me, and I hope into a good person. My deepest gratitude goes to my family, God, my godparents, friends, and all my teammates; this wouldn’t have been possible without them. I am immensely thankful to the doctors and physiotherapists who have helped me recover from serious injuries,” Marković shared in a social media message.

Although he concluded his career at Čelik, Marković indicated that he never envisioned it ending in this way.

“I didn’t foresee my career finishing like this. I have to acknowledge the great people like Vido, Boko, and Mrdelja for allowing me to finish as captain of a club of great significance to me. It’s a tremendous honor. I especially want to thank the legendary Međedović family. The initial pictures reflect my early football journey and the great man who taught me everything about the game and how to love our club – Dragan Međedović Medo. I end my career beside my friend and coach, his son Diego Armando Međedović Dražen,” added Marković.

In his message, he expressed thanks to the fans of Sutjeska and Čelik.

“A heartfelt thank you to my ‘Vojvoda’ for the incredible support over the years. Also, thank you to the ‘FAP Machine’ for their warm welcome, despite knowing my loyalty to Sutjeska. I hope my performances on the field conveyed my gratitude. Ultimately, I walk away from this sport as a winner, having experienced numerous challenges, but always finding the strength to rise again. So never give up. That’s it from Bonja concerning this sacred game, as you affectionately referred to me. Thank you all once more from the depths of my heart, and cheers to us. I would give anything for another career,” concluded Božo Marković.
