The performance by the Montenegrin National Theatre (CNP) took place tonight at the National Theatre in Belgrade, despite the deportation of director Danilo Marunović earlier that day.

On the eve of the performance, actors took the stage, with Svetozar Cvetković addressing the audience, noting that he was the sole guest from Belgrade and Serbia at last year’s performance in Podgorica.

“In Podgorica, I felt like a fish out of water, surrounded by locals. I eagerly anticipated our visit to Belgrade, hoping to host this team properly. It seems I fell short today,” said Cvetković.

He conveyed the stress felt by the entire cast throughout the day.

“Without delving into the reasons for the expulsion of an artist and director from his own country, we decided that his work, our play, shall not be expelled and we will perform for you tonight,” he stated.

His speech was met with enthusiastic, prolonged applause, after which he thanked the audience for allowing him to demonstrate their hospitality.

Earlier today, Vijesti reported that Montenegrin director Danilo Marunović was released from questioning by the Serbian Security Information Agency (BIA) and had to leave Serbia immediately.

A separate source informed Vijesti that BIA agents were to escort Marunović to the Montenegro border.

This morning at around nine, Marunović was detained for questioning at the BIA offices in Belgrade.

According to theatrical insiders, BIA agents entered Marunović’s hotel room where he stayed for the guest performance of “Gospoda Glembajevi,” produced by the Montenegrin National Theatre (CNP), at the National Theatre in Belgrade.
