Spajić Attends the Inauguration of Pope Leo XIV

Prime Minister Milojko Spajić will represent Montenegro at the inauguration ceremony of Pope Leo XIV from today until May 19th.

The official inaugural mass will take place in St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican.

American Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost was elected as the new pope on May 8, during the second day of the conclave held in the Sistine Chapel.

According to the government’s website, “The Montenegrin delegation’s presence at the inauguration of Pope Leo XIV underscores our commitment to fostering interreligious dialogue, cooperation, and respect between nations and peoples. Participating in this ceremony reflects both the contemporary and historical connections between Montenegro and the Holy See, which are rooted in mutual respect, cultural exchange, and a shared dedication to peace, solidarity, and the respect for human rights.”

The inauguration ceremony also signifies an important moment in international relations, as the Vatican plays a crucial role in global politics by promoting peace, advocating for social justice, and supporting those most in need.

The delegation includes: Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović, Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of Montenegro to the Holy See and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta Milica Petrović, Chief of the Prime Minister’s Cabinet Branko Krvavac, and Advisor to the Prime Minister for Foreign Policy Milica Perišić.

All expenses for the delegation during their visit to the Vatican will be funded by the Office of the Prime Minister and the General Secretariat of the Government.
