Today, the Serbian Government made a decision to name Dragan Vasiljević, the former assistant director, as the interim director of the Police.

According to Interior Minister Ivica Dačić, “Vasiljević will fulfill his responsibilities until the ongoing public competition concludes, aimed at ensuring the Police Directorate’s optimal operation.”

Dačić’s ministry reported that Vasiljević satisfies both the formal and legal criteria for this role, and he has shown a high level of knowledge and professionalism necessary for the position through his previous work.

Dragan Vasiljević, born on August 11, 1970, graduated from the Military Academy of the Land Army in Belgrade. He served at the Ministry of Defense – Yugoslav Army as a company commander from April 1, 1993, to September 16, 1994, as stated by Dačić.

Additionally, Vasiljević completed Higher Studies in Security and Defense at the National Defense School of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Serbia in 2020, as reported by Dačić.

From September 17, 1994, to October 31, 2003, Vasiljević worked at the Ministry of Interior’s Novi Pazar Police Department, where he held various roles, including Commander of the Novi Pazar Police Station and Deputy Chief of the Police Department.

From November 1, 2003, to June 1, 2018, he undertook various assignments in the Gendarmerie, including serving as Commander of the Gendarmerie Detachment in Belgrade from 2007 to 2015 and as the Assistant Commander of the Gendarmerie.

According to the statement, on June 1, 2018, Vasiljević was appointed to the Police Directorate in positions such as Commander of the Police Intervention Units, Commander of the Police Brigade, and Assistant Police Director for Police Affairs.

It is noted that since 2021, he has been authorized to lead the Police Directorate by ministerial decision.

Vasiljević has received numerous accolades, including the Charter of the President of the Republic for Merit in Defense and Security (1999st Class) in 2009, the First Prize from the Minister of Internal Affairs on the occasion of Ministry of Internal Affairs Day and Police Day in 2020, and the Charter of the Award of the Medieval Serbian Sword from the President of the Republic of Serbia.

He was also awarded Hungary’s highest professional recognition from the Minister of the Interior, “Saint George,” in 2022 and the “Star of Jakov Nenadović” from the Minister of the Interior in 2024.
