Montenegro Triumphs as Petar Koković’s Girls Outshine Greece
The Montenegrin women’s pioneer team clinched their second victory at the Balkan Championship in Pljevlja, overcoming Greece with a score of 3:1 (25:19, 25:22, 25:27, 25:21) in a thrilling and competitive match.
The pioneers started the match strong, jumping to a 3:0 lead right away, steadily increasing their advantage. At 14:8, they had a significant lead, pushing it further to 21:13. Despite Greece’s attempts to rally with consecutive points, Montenegro held firm, finishing the first set at 25:19.
The second set was filled with drama; Montenegro was ahead 5:2, but Greece made a comeback, equalizing at 8:8 and then taking the lead at 11:9. Nevertheless, Nađa Peković and her teammates refocused and demonstrated better concentration towards the end. With Bojana Krasnić serving, the home team took a 22:20 lead, closing out the set 25:22 to lead 2:0 overall.
The third set delivered even more tension. Greece initially led 3:1, but Montenegro quickly flipped the score to 4:3, leading to an intense back-and-forth. In the end, the guests prevailed with a close score of 27:25, bringing the overall score to 2:1.
In the fourth set, Montenegro regained their decisiveness, leading 8:5 and extending it to 14:11. Although the Greeks narrowed it to 19:18, the Montenegrin pioneers stayed calm and concluded the match with a 25:21 finish, securing a 3:1 victory.
Klara Đukić shone in the match, scoring 21 points, while Elena Jovanović added 13 points to the tally.
In the day’s earlier match, Turkey triumphed against North Macedonia without dropping a set. Following two consecutive victories, Petar Koković’s team now enjoys a day off. Tomorrow’s matches will see North Macedonia face Greece at 15:30, followed by Turkey taking on Bulgaria at 18:00.
