Inflation Rate at 3.9% in May

In May, personal consumption product and service prices, as measured by the consumer price index, increased by 3.9 percent on average compared to the same month last year, according to data from Monstat.

There was a 0.6 percent rise in consumer prices in May compared to April.

“The main contributors to the monthly inflation rate were price increases in the categories of fruit, meat, dairy products, accommodation services, oils and fats, clothing, maintenance and repair services for apartments, restaurants, cafes, and similar establishments,” the report noted.

Between January and May, consumer prices rose by an average of 3.1 percent compared to the same period last year.

Analyzing major product and service categories based on consumption purpose, May saw a 1.9 percent increase in the restaurants and hotels category, a 1.5 percent rise in food and non-alcoholic beverages, a 0.9 percent increase in alcoholic beverages and tobacco, and a 0.6 percent growth in other goods and services. Additionally, clothing and footwear, as well as health, saw a 0.4 percent increase each, while housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels, along with recreation and culture, rose by 0.2 percent each.

Conversely, the transportation category experienced a price decline of 1.5 percent, with communications dropping by 0.1 percent.
