The “From the Heart to the Basket” humanitarian basketball tournament is being organized by students from the “Niko Rolović” Gymnasium in Bar. The funds raised will go towards the medical treatment of five-month-old local resident, Mehmet.

This information was shared with “Vijesti” by the high school students, who, under the guidance of biology teacher Milkica Carmak, are spearheading this initiative. The event has garnered attention from numerous local and regional athletes, musicians, politicians, and other public figures on social media, all of whom have shown their support.

The tournament will take place on the “Arena Court” field located behind the gymnasium, organized by teachers and students from the “First Aid” section. Funds generated from this event will support the treatment of a five-month-old baby suffering from a critical congenital kidney condition.

“He has already undergone several complex surgeries and still faces a challenging battle for his life,” the students explained, highlighting the motivation behind this sports tournament.

The event is scheduled for the evening of May 31 and June 1, running from 8 PM to midnight. Viewers will be able to watch the tournament live on “Adriatik Sport” television, where a banner displaying the bank account number for donations will be featured throughout the broadcast.

“Preparation for the tournament has spanned approximately twenty days and is being publicized across all social media platforms. Our core idea was to have prominent figures from various fields record supportive videos encouraging the public to attend and register their teams,” the students told the newspaper.

In the end, the response from those eager to participate was so overwhelming that they struggled to manage the influx of materials for social media promotion. The content became so “viral,” they noted, that people independently sent supporting videos, eager to be part of “this heartfelt movement that swept across social media.”

“We invite everyone interested to come to the tournament as we’ve arranged a vibrant program. A surprise performance awaits all attendees on the second evening. This tournament has only one true winner, and that is our Mehmet, who we hope will one day showcase his skills on this very court,” they added.

This humanitarian effort has also received backing from the President of the Bar Municipal Assembly, Branislav Nenezić, as well as the director of the Sports and Recreation Center “Topolica,” Bozidar Janković.
