Eighteenth Summer School for Young Diplomats Welcomes Participants from 53 Nations

The 18th edition of the International Summer School for Young Diplomats “Gavro Vuković,” backed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and supported by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), was inaugurated in Berane earlier today.

This year’s program has brought together young diplomats from 53 countries, marking the highest number of participating nations to date.

In his welcome address, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ervin Ibrahimović highlighted that this initiative began as a regional network for young diplomats but has now evolved into a globally recognized platform.

To date, over 1,000 professionals in international relations from nearly 100 countries have had the chance to enhance their knowledge and expand their diplomatic networks through this school, he stated, underscoring the significance of personal interactions in an era when communication is increasingly digital.

This is the essence of diplomacy – to understand, explore, share information, and make decisions in the interest of those we represent. You will identify solutions where others see barriers. You are the ones who will forge connections and make choices that link people and ideas, remarked Ibrahimović.

UNDP Resident Representative Ekaterina Paniklova pointed out that the Summer School embodies diplomacy at its best – it serves as a meeting of minds, a bridge across cultures, and a venue for building trust.

She noted that young diplomats play a pivotal role in shaping our world today through their dedication to collaboration, equality, and fostering a more inclusive and resilient future.

This year’s Summer School will run until June 27, with upcoming activities continuing in Kolašin, Podgorica, Cetinje, and Kotor, where participants will have the opportunity to connect, explore Montenegro, and engage in discussions on contemporary global challenges through dialogue and experience sharing.
