Borussia Dortmund celebrated a 4:2 victory at the “Bay Arena,” but they will be relying on St. Pauli’s performance against Eintracht today to secure a Champions League spot, after they faced a 2:2 draw in Frankfurt!
The “Millionaires” will face Holstein Kiel in the final round, while Eintracht Freiburg, who sits one point ahead of Borussia, requires a two-goal win to reach Europe’s elite competition.
The home team in Leverkusen started strong, with Frimpong scoring in the 31st minute thanks to an assist from Florian Wirz.
Just two minutes later, Julian Brandt leveled the score with a quick shot, and Gregor Kobel made some remarkable saves before Dortmund capitalized on a second opportunity—Rierson scored in the 43rd minute. Kobel recorded seven saves in the first half.
Dortmund showcased a better performance in the second half, with goals from Adeyemi (73rd minute) and Girasi (77th minute).
In the closing moments, Jonas Hofman managed to lessen the defeat.
In another match, Eintracht Frankfurt and St. Pauli played to a 2-2 draw in the penultimate match of the Bundesliga’s 33rd round.
Eintracht took an early lead with Rasmus Christensen scoring in the first minute, but Hamburg’s guests quickly turned the game around with goals from Manolis Saliakis (4th minute) and Morgan Gilavogi (16th minute).
Michy Batshuayi rescued a point for Frankfurt in the 71st minute.
That draw secured St. Pauli’s survival, ensuring two Hamburg clubs will compete in the Bundesliga next season—HSV celebrated promotion from Zweibrücken last night, marking a return since 2018.
