DPS and Eraković Urge Zvicer to Reassume Leadership of the Security Sector

Democratic Montenegro has declared that it seems the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) and their MP Jevto Eraković are inviting the leader of the Kavača criminal group, Radoje Zvicer, “to resume control of the security sector.”
This statement follows Eraković’s earlier remarks regarding “today’s attempted murder in the heart of Podgorica, occurring in broad daylight, which further underscores that citizens cannot feel secure with the current security arrangements.”
“Unlike Canada, Germany, Sweden, and many other developed nations where serious crimes occur, there is rarely political interference in such matters. Here, we experience the complete opposite. Montenegro stands alone as a country with a party as hypocritical as the DPS, which exploits every opportunity for political gain while attempting to protect criminal networks in the country,” the Democrats’ announcement claims.
Furthermore, the party emphasized that MP Eraković is not an unfamiliar figure.
“He is well aware, as is all of Montenegro, that the events unfolding over the past decades are the direct result of his party’s policies and the decision to entrust the security sector to the region’s most notorious criminals. Just a few days ago, Montenegro witnessed the truth; the security sector and police actions were overseen by none other than the fugitive criminal Radoje Zvicer,” the Democrats’ announcement continues.
The statement also remarked that “while critical state institutions have been turned into subservient entities of criminal operations, the appointments made by DPS in crucial positions throughout the security sector and other institutions are currently under scrutiny due to facing legal charges and confirmed indictments.”
“Since DPS and Eraković appear to be urging ‘commander’ Zvicer to regain control over the security sector, we would like to remind him of just some of the consequences of that leadership during their tenure: 711 murders, with 86 remaining unresolved, and multiple journalists and police inspectors tragically killed on the streets of Montenegro. In fact, under the last DPS administration, there were 96 murders, including 6 accidental casualties in criminal confrontations. It seems Montenegro might be one of the few nations where a ruling party fought to protect crime rather than combat it,” stated the Democrats.
The Democrats highlighted, “Instead of maintaining silence within the DPS amid mounting evidence linking them to organized crime, and their reluctance or inability to support our vigorous efforts to combat crime and reform the security sector, their baseless critiques only serve to perpetuate their agenda of shielding criminal networks in Montenegro and threatening their reputation both domestically and internationally.”
“Ultimately, we understand why Mr. Eraković aligns more closely with Radoje Zvicer at the helm of the security sector rather than with principled individuals; the reasoning lies within the connections of certain officials to various business interests,” concluded the Democrats’ statement.
