The Montenegrin women’s basketball team will compete in Group C at the upcoming European Championship, alongside Belgium, the Czech Republic, and Portugal, as determined by tonight’s draw in Greece.

This marks Montenegro’s eighth consecutive participation in EuroBasket, having secured their spot in the continental competition through a qualifying group that also included Luxembourg, Switzerland, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Montenegro’s group stage matches will take place in Brno, as the Czech Republic is one of four host countries for the tournament, along with Greece, Italy, and Germany.

“I believe we have a fairly strong group. It’s tough, of course, but overall, it presents a good opportunity for us. Ultimately, our success will depend on the squad we assemble for the European Championship, as that will significantly influence our objectives. There’s still plenty of time before the championship, and rosters may change for other national teams, but it’s a solid group for us,” stated coach Jelena Škerović on the Federation’s website.

Škerović’s team will kick off their campaign on June 19th against the host nation, the Czech Republic. The following day, they will meet the current European champions, Belgium, and their match against Portugal is set for June 22nd.

“Belgium, as the reigning European champions, are the clear favorites for the top spot. We face the Czech Republic, one of the tournament’s hosts, who will undoubtedly strive for the best result. They’ve shown quality in their team, especially over the last three years. Portugal, having beaten Serbia to qualify for their first European Championship, is also a challenging opponent,” added Škerović.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals. If Montenegro qualifies, they will face a team from Group D.

“We have time to analyze our opponents. While it won’t be easy, it’s clear that Belgium will be a leading contender, and we’ll be battling the Czech Republic and Portugal for qualification,” the coach remarked.

EuroBasket is scheduled from June 18th to 29th.

GROUP A: Greece, Turkey, France, and Switzerland.

GROUP B: Slovenia, Serbia, Italy, and Lithuania.

GROUP C: Belgium, Czech Republic, Montenegro, and Portugal.

GROUP D: Great Britain, Germany, Sweden, and Spain.
