Novaković Appointed Sports Director Unauthorized, Leaves Behind Empty Coffers

The situation at Football Club Budućnost has garnered attention recently following the election of a new Supervisory Board, led by the newly appointed club president, Boško Kovačević.

A day prior to the management’s appointment, Budućnost’s executive director, Novak Novaković, introduced the new sports director, Dejan Damjanović, a former player for the Montenegrin national team, to the media.

According to Boško Kovačević, Novaković acted beyond his authority by making the appointment without waiting for the official formation of the Supervisory Board, which must validate all decisions.

“Although he is a distinguished former national player, the manner in which this appointment occurred does not align with the club’s regulations. We are committed to ensuring transparency in all decision-making. The authority to appoint a sports director does not rest with the executive director, a fact known to both Novak Novaković and Dejan Damjanović,” stated Boško Kovačević.

These issues will be addressed by the club’s new management in the forthcoming days. Kovačević asserts that their primary goal is to secure a license for competition in European tournaments.

“Failing to acquire a license in the initial round is a significant challenge we are currently facing, and it is our top priority. Everything else, for the time being, is secondary,” he added.

Previous transfer transactions have raised millions, yet a pending tax debt is jeopardizing the license.

“It is crucial to note that the finances are depleted. As management, we are striving to secure the necessary funds to maintain operations,” the new club president highlighted.

Kovačević also learned of the investigation by the Special State Prosecutor’s Office into FK Budućnost’s past financial activities—specifically regarding the funds from the transfers of Viktor Đukanović and Vasilije Adžić, and the reasons for the empty coffers—through media outlets.

“We fully support the Prosecutor’s Office in executing its responsibilities,” he concluded.
