Jadran Visits the Team That Defeated Them Twice This Season
The likelihood of advancing to the quarterfinals is quite slim, yet the Jadran water polo team remains highly motivated ahead of their final two group stage matches in the Champions League.
On Tuesday at 19:00, Novljan will host Jadran in Split, a familiar opponent who has claimed victory in both encounters this season.
In their second match of the Champions League, the Split team prevailed in Trebinje with a score of 11:10, and they also triumphed in the regional Premier League at home with a score of 15:14. The European clash was notably competitive, with Herceg Novi missing several opportunities towards the end that could have at least helped them avoid defeat.
The Croatian champions are still regarded as favorites, and should they emerge victorious—provided Crvena zvezda does not win against Ferencvaros in Hungary—they will secure a spot in the top eight across Europe. Notably, a Hungarian powerhouse has achieved a perfect record after four rounds.
Petr Radanović’s squad has managed to earn two points thus far, thanks to their victory over Zvezda, which they secured in a penalty shootout (the “red and whites” received one point).
No matter the outcome of the group stage, our champions will continue their European journey—finishing third or fourth in the standings will grant them a place in the Eurocup’s next round.
There is a strong possibility that two Montenegrin teams will reach the knockout phase of the second-tier European competition, as Primorac currently leads the Eurocup group heading into the final two rounds.
