Cyberspace has evolved beyond a mere technical concern, now standing as a vital security domain alongside land, sea, and air, stated Colonel Mitar Klikovac, Chief of Staff of the Army of Montenegro.

Today, the Ministry of Defense reported that Klikovac inaugurated the international and interagency cyber exercise “Cyber Soko 25” at the “Knjaz Danilo” military airport.

Klikovac highlighted that “Cyber Soko 25” is a tangible response to the escalating challenges in the digital landscape.

He stressed that the exercise unites representatives from various institutions and countries, indicating that only through collaborative efforts can we effectively defend against advanced threats.

“We take pride in Montenegro’s status as a NATO member, enhancing our capabilities in line with Alliance standards and actively contributing to global cybersecurity. The Army’s role in this arena is unequivocal—preparedness, expertise, and collaboration are the cornerstones of every successful defense,” Klikovac affirmed.

The statement indicates that this exercise is organized by the Ministry of Defense and the Army of Montenegro, involving cyber experts from North Macedonia as well as the National Guard of the US states of Maine and Vermont, alongside specialists from other national organizations, supported by the European Union (EU). The aim is to bolster collective resilience against cyber threats.

“Throughout the exercise, participants will engage in simulations of complex cyber incidents, rigorously testing protection protocols and enhancing interagency and international cooperation. ‘Cyber Soko 25’ will continue until June 6, with a one-day interdepartmental simulation addressing cyber threats through a ‘table-top’ exercise planned in Podgorica,” the statement explained.

The Ministry of Defense noted that this exercise is part of the extensive “Defender Europe 25” maneuvers—one of the most significant military exercises led by the US Armed Forces in Europe.

“These maneuvers gather 25,000 troops from 30 nations, showcasing NATO’s readiness to tackle security challenges across all domains,” the Ministry of Defense stated.
