Saltworks Employees to Rally Again Tomorrow

On Saturday, June 14th, former workers of the Bajo Sekulić Saltworks will once again block the road at the entrance to Ulcinj near Kipsa for two hours, starting at 11:00 AM.

According to worker representative Saša Mitrović, he acknowledges the concerns of citizens, tourists, and several officials, noting that the pressure is leading to more radical protests.

“While we understand their frustration, we hope they can also understand our position. Importantly, we are not blocking the road unlawfully. In fact, we are adhering to the law and properly notified authorities about our protest within the required timeframe,” stated Mitrović.

The decision to block roads in protest of unpaid wages and contributions was unanimously made by the workers during a meeting on May 4, commemorating 20 years since the introduction of reorganized bankruptcy in Ulcinj’s oldest company.

At the meeting, it was decided that the road blockades would initially last for one hour.

The bankruptcy administration currently owes workers approximately 900,000 euros in unpaid wages and contributions for nearly five and a half years of service.

The workers believe the time has come for the state to address their grievances.

Solana has been in programmed bankruptcy since 2005 and in classic bankruptcy since 2011.

The last salt harvest took place in 2013.
