I want to try something new at some point, I don’t think about the salary but about what’s best for my career

“Exploring New Opportunities: Prioritizing Career Growth Over Salary”

Florian Wirz, a talent from Bayer Leverkusen, has expressed his desire to eventually change clubs and “embrace new experiences” in his football career.

“At some point, I want to step out of my comfort zone and try something different. I’ve been around enough football locker rooms to feel confident that I could integrate into any team quickly,” Wirz shared in an interview with Sports Illustrated.

Although his contract with Leverkusen extends until 2027, the German midfielder is rumored to be attracting interest from top clubs such as Bayern Munich, Manchester City, and Real Madrid.

“I consider myself fortunate to have so many prestigious clubs nearby, and I am currently playing for one of the best teams in Germany and Europe. I deeply respect the players here in Leverkusen who have come from South America or Africa, leaving their families and backgrounds behind for their professional journeys,” Wirz stated.

Since joining Leverkusen from Cologne in January 2020 at just 16 years old, Wirz made headlines six months later by becoming the youngest goalscorer in Bundesliga history, a record that has since been surpassed by Borussia Dortmund’s Youssoufa Moukoko.

“When I transferred from Cologne to Leverkusen, my sole focus was on my career growth, not my salary. I don’t dwell on my bank account or future earnings,” Wirz commented.

He also expressed gratitude to his parents for their unwavering support.

“They instilled in me the importance of a balanced lifestyle and education. My parents played a vital role in my journey to becoming a professional footballer. They attended every game, and my mother was even there for every training session. I am truly blessed to have such a supportive family,” Wirz reflected.

Last season, the German midfielder celebrated a Bundesliga title with Leverkusen and was honored as the league’s best player. He also played a crucial role in helping Bayer reach the Europa League final and earned a spot on the tournament’s ideal team.

Wirz has represented the German national team in 29 matches, scoring six goals.
