Proposed design of the future swimming pool in Herceg Novi, Image: Municipality of Herceg Novi
According to Stevan Katić, the Mayor of Herceg Novi, the new Olympic swimming pool is set to be one of the finest in the region.
This statement came following the completion of the preliminary design for the upcoming pool, as noted in an announcement from the President of the Municipality’s Cabinet.
“The facility will have a capacity exceeding 1,000 seats, and within the complex, there will be a business center and a two-level underground garage housing around 300 parking spaces,” the announcement details.
Katić further explained that the site had been assessed, leading to modifications based on the decision to establish a local facility for public benefit—both a sports and economic development facility including an access road. This decision was passed by the Herceg Novi Municipal Assembly, and the conceptual design for the pool was finalized recently.
“In 2024, we aim to advance the project and propose it for the state capital budget,” emphasized Katić.
The new pool is also set to serve as the new venue for the Jadran Swimming and Water Polo Club, previously based at the Dr. Simo Milošević Institute pool in Igalo. Following an accident there, they relocated to the open pool at Škver. This season, they even hosted the Champions League in Bosnia and Herzegovina at the pool in Trebinje.
“I am confident that the new swimming pool and surrounding area will be a point of pride for both Herceg Novi and PVK Jadran. It will enable us to compete and host significant events, such as European championships in water polo and swimming, thus placing Herceg Novi firmly on the map of competitive swimming, thanks to our city’s rich tradition with water polo,” Katić concluded.
