They Start Gathering Signatures for a State Referendum.

The Union of Free Trade Unions (USSCG) is set to commence a field tour across various municipalities in Montenegro starting today. The initiative aims to gather signatures from citizens for a state referendum concerning issues linked to the campaigns of the workers’ association.

Today, USSCG will begin signature collection in Bar, with a stand operating from 5 PM in front of the Bar Municipal Assembly Hall.

A public forum is scheduled to take place from 7 PM to 9 PM in the Bar Municipal Assembly Hall.

The USSCG has launched campaigns under the slogans “For a peaceful sleep,” “social housing,” and “Not everything is for sale.” These initiatives stem from resolutions emphasizing the need for housing policy reform and safeguarding economic entities of national importance, which were adopted at the union’s fourth Congress.

“Due to the lack of response from policymakers regarding the initiatives and priorities communicated, the Executive Board of the USSCG has decided to continue the campaign and, in accordance with Article 93, paragraph 3 of the Constitution, initiate a signature collection to propose that Parliament call for a state referendum,” the statement indicated.

For Parliament to proceed with calling a state referendum on the aforementioned topics, it is essential to gather signatures from at least ten percent of eligible voters, totaling approximately 54,250 signatures.

“The referendum questions that citizens would be asked to vote on, should a state referendum take place, include whether they support the Parliament’s adoption of the Law on the Construction of State-Owned Apartments, which would be leased at favorable conditions to Montenegrin citizens unable to resolve their housing issues through market means, and whether they are in favor of the Parliament adopting the Law on the Preservation of Economic Entities of National Interest in Majority State Ownership,” the statement concludes.
