Discussions on establishing a local government in Herceg Novi commenced this week, with the current mayor and head of the “We Know Each Other by Deeds” list, Stevan Katić, announcing that initial talks have taken place with Novski List, the coalition for the “Future of Herceg Novi and Boka,” as well as the civic movement URA.

Katić stated during his appearance on RTHN that he aims to meet with the Civic Movement “Idemoooo!” by the week’s end.

According to reports from the RTHN portal, Katić anticipates that the President of the Municipal Assembly will be elected during the local parliament session on May 20, which is the deadline for forming the government, verifying mandates, and submitting the Municipal Election Commission’s report.

“We have consulted with the major political entities that achieved success in Herceg Novi, completing the first round of talks with Novski List and the ‘Future of Herceg Novi and Boka’ coalition. We have also discussed matters with URA. Additionally, we will engage with the ‘Idemoooo!’ Civic Movement before the week concludes,” Katić explained.

He added that a joint meeting with potential coalition partners will be arranged following individual discussions with all potential coalition members.

“To finalize a framework coalition agreement that I hope will be signed by the constituent session on May 20, I believe, based on prior discussions and consultations with all our previous partners, that there will not be significant challenges in forming the government in Herceg Novi, unlike in 2017 and 2021,” Katić remarked.

He noted that a coalition with existing and potentially new partners would create a solid majority in the local parliament.

“The administration in Herceg Novi, which has managed the city for the last eight years—in two consecutive four-year terms—has increased its total mandate count. Previously, we held 27 out of 35, and there is now a chance to secure 28 or even 29. In any case, we will reach an agreement shortly,” concluded Katić.

The inaugural session of the Herceg Novi Municipal Assembly is set for May 20.

The proposed agenda includes two items: a report from the Municipal Election Commission on the elections for councilors in the Herceg Novi Municipal Assembly, conducted on April 13 this year, and the election of the President of the Herceg Novi Municipal Assembly.
