Jahja Nurković Suffers Defeat in Opening Match
Judo in Montenegro has yet to reach a world-class level, as our other athlete at the World Championships, Jahja Nurković, was eliminated in the first round at the “Laslo Pap” arena in the 73 kg category.
In the second round, Brazilian competitor Daniel Kargin showcased his skills, winning with a vasari in extra time after 6.03 minutes of intense grappling.
At 27 years old, the Brazilian, who is four years older than Jahja, ranks as the top judoka among 18 contenders in the IJF rankings for the 73-kilogram category from the “land of coffee.”
Jahja received a bye in the initial round, while Kargin advanced by defeating German fighter Igor Vandtke via ippon.
Just yesterday, his brother, Jusuf Nurković, faced a similar fate, losing his first match in the 66 kg category to Bulgarian Bojan Jotov.
The Nurković brothers are the only representatives from Montenegro in this prestigious Olympic sport—judo!
