With just four minutes remaining, Montenegrin captain Mirko Radović scored to give his team a 29:28 advantage over Iceland.
Sadly, the “lions” couldn’t hold on, as Iceland triumphed 31:30, eliminating Montenegro from advancing any further. The seasoned Cetinje player struggled to hold back tears while speaking to RTCG.
“The emotions are still overwhelming; it’s unfortunate that they are the ones celebrating today. I’m proud of my boys and commend them for their efforts. They fought hard for every ball, but luck was not on our side. We represented Montenegro honorably, yet we walked away with nothing,” Radović remarked.
Vasilije Kaluđerović netted four goals, yet it wasn’t sufficient.
“We had a chance to equalize and gave it our all. We fought until the final whistle, but mistakes are costly in high-stakes matches. We have no regrets,” stated the 25-year-old defender from Cetinje.
