Montenegro Welcomes Visitors from the Czech Republic and Finland

The second CEV Golden European League tournament is set to take place in Podgorica, which will host the men’s segment of this esteemed CEV event following the women’s tournament. The Montenegrin volleyball squad will compete against regular participants of major competitions, including the upcoming World Championship, with teams from the Czech Republic and Finland.

After their inaugural tournament in Mioveni, Romania, where Ivica Jevtić’s team fell to Romania (3:0) and Latvia (3:2), our youthful team will have their first chance to progress in front of their home supporters against the medal contenders in the Golden League.

The match against the Czech Republic is scheduled for Friday, June 13th, at 19:00, followed by a game against Finland on Sunday at the same time. The “reds” will face Finland, who will compete against the Czech Republic on Saturday.

Currently, Finland tops the unified standings, boasting maximum wins over Slovakia and North Macedonia, while the Czechs have split their four sets, winning one against Croatia and losing another to Israel.

“We have two significant matches ahead, one against the Czech Republic and another against Finland. Both are extremely strong national teams that are vying for a medal in the Golden League. This is crucial for our young players’ growth. Competing against teams that are stronger than us is essential for our development. It will also be important to play against teams at our level. I anticipate that the audience will recognize the need to support our national team and these young players. I hope they will come in large numbers,” stated coach Ivica Jevtić.

In contrast to the first tournament, the middle blocker and most seasoned member of the national team, Luka Babić, will be absent from the matches at SC “Verde” due to an injury sustained in Romania. Buducnost’s technician, Danilo Dubak, will take this opportunity to debut in the Golden League.

The roster for the matches in Podgorica includes: technicians: Rastko Milenković, Marko Joksimović, and Danilo Dubak;

service receivers: Nemanja Peruničić, Vasilije Milenković, Benjamin Hadžisalihović, and Milan Rovčanin;

setters: Djordje Jovovic and Luka Lojic;

middle blockers: Nikola Đurović, Matija Ćinćur, and Dalibor Lečić;

liberos: Andrija Joksimović and Stefan Radević.

After two rounds, the leading four teams—Finland, Romania, Greece, and Israel—are all boasting two wins each.
