STEGA Honors the Heroes of the Battle of Martinić with Wreath-Laying Ceremony: A Grave Warning for Montenegro
To commemorate May 21st, STEGA marked Montenegro’s Independence Day in Martinići (close to the Cultural Center) and honored heroes of the Battle of Martinići by laying a wreath, as announced by the association.
Vladimir Nikaljević addressed the attendees, with a keynote speech delivered by Professor Miomir Jovanović.
Nikaljević remarked, as noted in the statement, that Montenegro resembles a hidden river.
“Throughout its tumultuous history, it has vanished and reemerged on the historical stage multiple times. Currently, it faces serious threats and requires the vision and tenacity of the fighters of the Battle of Martinići. These mountains, with their fierce stone, emanate state-building energy — that’s how it was in history, and that’s what it will be in the future,” he stated.
Jovanović highlighted that this day serves as a promise from past generations and a reminder that independence was diligently earned and is most challenging to maintain, primarily from ourselves. He also recalled the importance of the Battle of Martinići in Bishop Petar I’s quest to unify Montenegro and achieve its independence.
The event drew a significant number of esteemed intellectuals and citizens who back STEGA’s initiatives, the statement concluded.
