Railways Must Prioritize Securing All Level Crossings to Ensure Citizen Safety and Well-being

Railway Infrastructure AD is clearly demonstrating a continual disregard for the lives and safety of our citizens in Bar and shows no serious intent to tackle the issue of securing level crossings within the municipality of Bar.

This statement was made by the Mayor of Bar, Dušan Raičević, following a traffic incident this morning in the Šušanj area, where a train collided with a vehicle, leaving one individual in critical condition.

“This recent accident, which endangered a life, is the last straw,” assessed Raičević.

He questioned the management of Railway Infrastructure about how many more people need to be harmed before they address this matter effectively and develop a systemic solution, which falls under their original responsibilities.

“Securing all railway crossings must be an absolute priority immediately, especially the heavily trafficked ones in Šušanj that cuts through the settlement, and Virpazar, where the influx of tourists puts lives at risk daily,” the statement from Raičević emphasizes.

He urged the Railway Infrastructure to promptly resolve this issue, especially with the summer tourist season approaching, where increased traffic is expected, and to implement modern safety measures at all level crossings, “because the lives and safety of citizens must take precedence.”

The local government, he concluded, stands ready to provide any necessary support.
