The Montenegro national water polo team secured second place at the Four Nations tournament held in Sardinia.
In the final match for the trophy, Vladimir Gojković’s squad faced Italy, narrowly losing 9:8 after finishing the regular game at 5:5.
During the fourth round of penalties, Montenegro had an opportunity to clinch the win. However, Dušan Matković’s shot hit the post, and Aleksa Ukropina’s header was saved by Nicosia.
Ukropina was the standout player for Montenegro, scoring three goals during the competition.
In their initial two matches in Cagliari, the Montenegrin team triumphed over Australia with a score of 8:6 and overcame France 17:11.
As they gear up for the European Championship starting January 4 in Croatia, Montenegro will continue their training in Podgorica, Kotor, and Herceg Novi.
