The hiring of new police officers through the current public call is expected to significantly ease the workload of active staff and enhance the operational efficiency of the Police Directorate, as discussed during meetings between Acting Police Director Lazar Šćepanović and union representatives.

Šćepanović met with Mladen Šuškavčević, President of the Police Union, as well as Igor Rmandić and Đorđi Vukićević, President and Vice President of the Independent Police Union, respectively.

The Police Directorate reported that Šćepanović shared with union representatives the key objectives of the Police Directorate’s operations.

He stressed that the main priorities include combating crime and corruption, enhancing professionalism and internal stability to build a modern, efficient police force that guarantees citizen safety, and addressing the shortage of personnel through better human resource management.

Šćepanović also highlighted the need to tackle longstanding issues such as procuring police uniforms and equipment, as well as introducing stationary radar systems.

“A long-term goal includes a proposal to expand the video surveillance coverage of public areas to additional cities beyond Podgorica, Budva, and Bar, with a primary focus on Cetinje,” the statement mentioned.

Representatives from both unions expressed their support for these objectives, underscoring the necessity of enhancing the reputation of the police service and improving working conditions for all personnel.

The meetings particularly addressed the housing needs of police officers across several cities, the legal protections for officers, enhancements in working conditions, and reductions in workloads that surpass legal limits due to a personnel deficit.

“In this context, there is consensus that the ongoing Public Call for the Employment of New Police Officers will greatly alleviate the burden on the active workforce and boost the operational capabilities of the Police Directorate,” the statement noted.

Moreover, issues related to social policy were discussed, including funding for employee credit support and addressing housing situations for officers across various cities.

The unions presented plans and initiatives to improve housing conditions for police officers, which will be prioritized with the backing of the Police Directorate in the near future.

It was emphasized during the meetings that regular and periodic discussions between the Police Directorate and the trade union are crucial for the ongoing resolution of important matters impacting police personnel and for enhancing their circumstances.

“Union representatives expressed their full support for Šćepanović’s future endeavors and conveyed their confidence that continued cooperation will yield positive outcomes,” the statement indicated.

In conclusion, the Police Directorate will maintain active collaboration with trade unions, backing all initiatives that aim to elevate the professional and social standing of employees while reinforcing the operational capability and efficiency of the police.
