Proposal for the Enrollment of 155 Students in the Faculty of Biotechnology for the 2025/26 Academic Year.

The Biotechnical Faculty of the University of Montenegro has put forth a proposal to enroll 2025 students in the first year of undergraduate studies for the 26/155 academic year, mirroring previous years.

This proposal encompasses enrollment in the following study programs: Plant Production (60 students) and Animal Production (35 students), both located in Podgorica, along with the applied studies in Mediterranean Fruit Growing in Bar (30 students), and Continental Fruit Growing and Medicinal Plants in Bijelo Polje (30 students).

The proposal is set to be presented to the UCG Board of Directors for final approval.

“Since 2005, the Faculty of Biotechnology has been training professionals in the agriculture and food production sectors. The programs offered are tailored to meet the challenges of modern agricultural practices—ensuring safety, high quality, and sustainability. These programs adhere to European educational standards and encompass academic and applied studies across undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels,” stated the UCG.

There is no entrance exam required for admission to the Faculty of Biotechnology. Candidates will be ranked based on the Regulations regarding the conditions, criteria, and procedures for admission to undergraduate studies at the University of Montenegro. All individuals who have completed high school or a four-year vocational secondary school are eligible to apply.

“Teaching is conducted in accordance with the principles of the Bologna Declaration, providing students with opportunities for practical training in collaboration with numerous individual producers and corporations in the primary production and food industry sectors. The faculty operates demonstration farms in Podgorica and Bar, with the farm in Lješkopolje notable for its vineyards, orchards, greenhouses, a wine cellar, and a collection of 442 grape varieties—among the largest in the Balkans,” it added.

According to the University of Montenegro, the Biotechnical Faculty offers a wide range of laboratory services—from seed certification and quality control of wine and dairy products to olive oil analysis and plant protection. With over 20 agreements established with various business entities and extensive informal collaborations, the faculty facilitates the acquisition of practical knowledge and skills.

“With advancements in technology and available developmental funding, Montenegrin agriculture is swiftly modernizing, and the agro-industry is flourishing across all aspects of product processing and marketing within the plant and animal sectors. This growth creates a demand for skilled professionals and opens many employment opportunities. Graduates from the Faculty of Biotechnology can find work in state administration, the private sector, education, or even embark on entrepreneurial ventures, especially in fields that hold significant untapped potential, such as fruit and vegetable production, meat and dairy processing, medicinal herbs, food safety, and agribusiness,” the statement emphasized.
