The Higher Court in Podgorica delivered first-instance convictions to those charged with planning the murder of the late Milić Minja Šaković in early 2021.

The court found them guilty of the criminal offense of forming a criminal organization, with Jovan Trkulja, Nikola Mirić, and Jovan Miranović also convicted for illegal possession of firearms.

The first-instance verdict was issued by Judge Goran Šćepanović.

Trkulja received a sentence of three years and five months, Mirić four years and three months, and Miranović two years and three months in prison.

Aleksandar Veljović was sentenced to two years and eight months, Saša Stanišić to two years, and Boban Milić to two and a half years, as announced by the Higher Court.

Throughout the trial, the guilt of the defendants was established through presented evidence, expert witness findings, and SKY communications.

Serbian nationals Trkulja and Mirić were expelled from Montenegro by court order and prohibited from re-entering the country for the next 10 years.

According to the indictment, the criminal group planned the elimination of Podgorica resident Milić Minja Šaković by acquiring an apartment across from his residence, from which they intended to execute the murder.

Defendants Trkulja and Mirić surveilled Šaković’s house and movements from that location, practiced shooting with a sniper rifle, obtained a van to escape with a motorcycle after the murder, set it ablaze, and secured a small apartment for hiding post-crime.

They were apprehended just as they were about to enter a van heading to the apartment from which they planned to assassinate Šaković with a sniper rifle that was to be supplied by an accomplice.

Milić Minja Šaković was killed in June 2022 in Budva.
