We All Know Đer – Young Players Should Focus on Enjoying the Game

The recent loss against Debrecen has definitively ruled Buducnost Bemax out of contention for the Champions League round of 16. With four games remaining in the group stage, the team from Podgorica is eager to make the most of these matches.

Their next challenge is Đer, scheduled for Saturday at 20:00, a team that has so far secured 10 consecutive victories and is traveling to Montenegro to maintain their winning streak…

This presents a significant challenge for the “blues.”

“We all recognize Đer’s strength; creating scoring opportunities will be tough. In their last match against Odense, Đer effectively defended 21 out of 30 six-on-six attacks, while Odense, despite being a top team, managed to penetrate their defense only nine times. Most of their points came from solid defensive plays leading to quick counterattacks. Unfortunately, our offense has been marked by nervousness and stress stemming from technical errors, which strong teams punish when we fail to quickly transition back to defense. This tension in our offense naturally impacts our defensive performance. Therefore, we must be persistent, and it’s crucial for the girls to enjoy the game and not to give up easily if we want to compete effectively,” stated Bojana Popović, head coach of Budućnost.

Budućnost had higher ambitions in this year’s Champions League.

“We’ve faced a challenging period. Losing is never easy, but maintaining the will, desire, and motivation to push forward is essential. Our team is relatively young and has undergone significant changes this season, especially with departures like Noemi Hafra. We’ve integrated even younger players, and now we must utilize the remainder of the season to focus on development. Since we have not achieved our initial goal of advancing past the group stage, we need to shift our focus to nurturing the younger talent,” Bojana added.

“The young players must use the next four games as a platform for growth, understanding this is their chance. They should not fixate on the strength of their opponents, even though that’s easier said than done. When the game commences and they see the caliber of the opposition, fear can set in. To foster character and energy, they need to step onto the court with the mindset that everything is heading in a positive direction. Building character and energy go hand in hand,” the legendary handball player emphasized.
