The Montenegrin water polo team put up a strong fight against Spain, refusing to back down even when trailing by three goals. However, they ultimately faced their first defeat at the European Championship.
The “Sharks” were defeated 14:12 in Dubrovnik last night.
“We delivered a solid performance. Initially, things were going well, although we missed several key opportunities. Later in the game, with the score tied at 10:10, we made critical mistakes that should have been avoided. Additionally, with many players having three fouls, we were at a disadvantage,” said coach Vladimir Gojković, who added:
“We were confident we could win, and I believe we showed improvement compared to our opening match against France,” Gojković remarked.
Montenegro will face Croatia next on Monday at 20:15.
“We are up against another strong team like Spain, well-rounded in every position. We need to perform at our peak to position ourselves for a victory in that match. Our belief and approach must mirror what we displayed against Spain,” Gojković concluded.
