Aleksa Ukropina and Marko Mršić spearheaded Montenegro’s offense in their second-round match against Spain in the European Championship.
Both players scored three goals each, alongside Stefan Vidović; however, this effort was not enough to avert defeat as “La Furia” triumphed 14:12.
Ukropina expressed that the “sharks” faltered in their defensive performance.
“It was a tough, physical game with many exclusions. We were constantly on the back foot, allowing the opponent to gain the upper hand, but our defense was the weakest aspect of our team. Conceding so many goals at this level is unacceptable. When you let in 14 goals, serious teams like Spain will claim victory,” remarked the left-handed Ukropina.
Mršić excelled offensively.
“We recognized our capabilities and proceeded with confidence. The outcome could have been different—at 10:10 we were poised to turn the tide, and then we had an opportunity to even the score. Regarding Croatia, we will prepare thoroughly and aim for victory. Nothing less will suffice,” asserted the young water polo talent from Primorje.
