The Center for Science and the Clinical Center (KCCG) will host lectures on Monday to mark World Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Day, the health institution has announced.

According to their statement, World IBD Day is observed annually on May 19th to promote awareness regarding chronic inflammatory bowel diseases, including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

This year, KCCG will commemorate this significant date in Montenegro under the motto “IBD knows no borders, stigmas can be and must be dismantled!”.

“In celebration of this occasion, the Science Center, in collaboration with the Department of Gastroenterohepatology from the Internal Clinic and the Institute for Children’s Diseases, is organizing lectures to be held on Monday,” the announcement indicates.

The scheduled lectures will take place in the amphitheater of the Institute for Children’s Diseases, starting at 1 PM.

“Brigita Smolović, the Director of the Science Center, will deliver a welcoming address and introduce the topic of the event, following which Milica Popović, the President of the Montenegrin Association for Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, will discuss the experiences and challenges faced by patients,” the announcement states.

KCCG noted that Damir Muhović, an internist-gastroenterohepatologist from the Internal Clinic, will present on different perspectives and how to overcome taboos surrounding IBD.

“Additionally, Veselinka Đurišić, a pediatrician-gastroenterohepatologist at the Institute for Children’s Diseases, will address IBD in the pediatric population, its effects on quality of life, and the unique aspects of diagnosing and treating children with IBD,” the announcement adds.

World IBD Day also serves as a platform to raise awareness about this increasingly prevalent and serious health concern.

“Through open discussions, we can only together dismantle the taboos regarding IBD and its effects on the lives of patients, particularly children,” KCCG emphasized.

As a gesture of support for those suffering from inflammatory bowel diseases, the Capital City Assembly, the Municipality building, the Millennium Bridge, and the KCCG will be illuminated in purple, symbolizing solidarity with afflicted individuals worldwide.

“This year, to enhance visibility and underscore the significance of the issues faced by individuals with inflammatory bowel diseases, Montenegro is joining a long list of nations commemorating this date on the map of the European Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis Association for the very first time,” the announcement concludes.
