Increasing Fascination with the North Throughout Summer
Last year, more than 15 million euros were allocated for investments in five ski resorts using funds from Montenegro’s capital budget and the Ministry of Tourism. Of this amount, nearly nine million euros were dedicated to the state ski resort in Kolašin. This announcement was made at the Kolašin 1600 Ski Center, where the summer tourist season was inaugurated with a festive program and a variety of engaging activities, according to Minister of Tourism Simonida Kordić.
She emphasized the significance of the increasing interest in the northern region, stating, “It’s extremely important that the appeal of our north continues to grow year after year, even during summer months.”
Kordić noted that two new ski lifts became operational at the state ski resort during the last tourist season, along with ongoing construction of a garage intended for both the state and the private ski center Kolašin 1450.
“We have introduced new features that allow the summer season to operate at full capacity… Moreover, the Ministry has plans to invest in advanced technological solutions for snow production at elevated temperatures. Research is underway and investments are made towards smaller accumulation capacities to facilitate the use of artificial snow cannons. These capacities will complement a larger future project, set to commence upon the completion of water infrastructure,” she remarked.
Reflecting on this year’s winter tourist season, the Minister declared it more successful than the previous one in terms of visitor numbers and overnight stays, asserting that “the first months of the winter season met our expectations.”
“In collective and individual visits to northern Montenegro, there was an increase of more than 46 percent in visitors and over 35 percent in overnight stays compared to 2024. In Kolašin, all accommodation facilities noted an eight percent increase in visitors and over 12 percent more overnight stays compared to the previous season. Throughout Montenegro as a whole, the European Travel Commission reports a growth of approximately 3.6 percent in attendance, aligning us with the European average for tourism traffic,” stated the Minister of Tourism.
Kordić highlighted the necessity of ongoing investment in capacity to bring “our capabilities, in terms of equipment and accommodation, to an optimal level.” She emphasized that this investment is crucial for achieving the goal of establishing Montenegro as a hub for quality tourism, where visitors can immerse themselves in authentic experiences.
The Minister also underscored the importance of investing in road infrastructure, noting that this is a collective effort involving multiple departments and local governments.
The opening of the summer tourist season at the state ski resort was conducted by the acting executive director of the Ski Resort of Montenegro, Bojan Medenica. He mentioned that the summer season in the mountains features a diverse range of events catering to both local and international visitors.
The event was celebrated with a performance by the Cultural and Artistic Society (KUD) “Mijat Mašković,” a DJ party on Troglava, and complimentary panoramic rides.
Zorica Milašinović, the Director of the Kolašin Tourist Organization, unveiled a lineup of activities planned for the upcoming summer months, particularly for June.
“In collaboration with the Public Enterprise National Parks of Montenegro, we will organize a promotional tour to Pešić Lake on Bjelasica on June 5th. A free climbing day is scheduled for June 7th, followed by futsal and basketball tournaments on the subsequent days, and an evening painting workshop at the Kolašin 1600 Ski Center,” Milašinović announced.
A children’s football tournament for ages 13 to 15 will take place from June 7 to 13, and a walking tour to Jablanov vrh is set for June 14. Additionally, the Main Street in Kolašin will host an open-air music concert on the same day.
One of the standout events, the Basketball Camp “Kolašin 2025,” is scheduled to start on June 20th, attracting hundreds of young athletes from the region.
Concluding the month, from June 27th to 29th, the Municipality will host the Active Tourism Festival, a three-day celebration combining sports, nature, and entertainment, complete with a vibrant music program.
Unfortunately, the ceremony marking the summer tourist season was partially hindered by a power outage, resulting in a temporary suspension of the six-seater Troglav for panoramic rides. Vijesti could not obtain an official explanation from the ski resort management regarding the power interruption affecting the infrastructure on Bjelasica.
