Budućnost Voli came close to suffering its fourth defeat in the AdmiralBet ABA League but managed to secure an 86:82 victory against Spartak in Subotica, capping the game with a remarkable 13:0 run.
“I want to congratulate the team on their second-half performance. Spartak played exceptionally well, utilizing a fast and aggressive style that challenged us. We failed to adhere to our game plan, allowing easy points without maintaining focus. A well-disciplined team like Spartak will capitalize on such mistakes,” remarked coach Andrej Žakelj.
Buducnost found itself trailing by 18 points in the opening half.
“We started to turn things around just before halftime and improved our play. Although it wasn’t our best outing, we managed to secure the win. I believe the victory was warranted due to our significantly better defense in the second half,” Žakelj added.
“There are still many aspects we need to address, but every match is a battle for the top spot, and the primary goal is to come out on top.”
Rashid Sulaiman was a standout with 22 points.
“He has exceeded our expectations all season, contributing significantly in both offense and defense. Even though he had two or three less impactful games, it doesn’t overshadow the team effort. Apart from Rashid, McKinley Wright and Kenan Kamenjaš also made their mark. It felt as if several others were not fully present at the match, and that reflected in our performance,” explained Žakelj.
