Šarović Released After Detention Over Reportage in Pioneer Park

Ažurirano: 14.03.2025. 18:26h

Nemanja Šarović, a journalist for KTV and a political figure from Serbia, was released after providing a statement at the police station located on 29 November Street in Belgrade.

According to him, in an interview with N1, the cause of his arrest was linked to a report he was covering in Pionirski Park, during which he allegedly insulted and harassed law enforcement officers, as per a complaint filed.

Šarović explained that he was merely attempting to inquire whether the police would respond to the presence of several unregistered tractors parked in Pionirski Park, noting that those in police uniforms did not take any action.

“I encountered individuals who claimed to be Red Berets, only to realize they weren’t, which prompted me to verify if the people in police uniforms were legitimate officers since they were not acting according to the law,” Šarović told N1.

The KTV Facebook page reported that Šarović was apprehended by authorities around 3 p.m. while he was there to advocate for the release of Srđan Žunić, the leader of the “United People of Serbia” movement.

A video documenting his arrest has surfaced on social media.

Previously, Šarović was taken into custody on March 8 while covering a camp where individuals were pretending to be “students wishing to study.”

His arrest was also streamed live on KTV. During the incident, one protestor poured coffee on him, and another woman struck his arms, causing his microphone to fall.

Footage revealed that a police officer instructed him to vacate Pioneer Park to prevent a significant disturbance to peace and order. Subsequently, the officers forcibly removed the journalist and escorted him to a police vehicle when he refused to depart the area.
