European Commission’s Endorsement Solidifies Montenegro’s Pivotal Role

The Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs, Filip Ivanović, shared his thoughts on the remarks made by the European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, during her presentation to the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs. In her speech, Commissioner Kos expressed strong support for Montenegro’s ambition to conclude all negotiation chapters by the end of 2026.

In a post on the social media platform X, Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović highlighted that the consistent affirmations from Brussels provide the most convincing counter to ongoing efforts to instill doubt and pessimism within the domestic community concerning Montenegro’s EU membership prospects.

He noted that the Government’s steadfast dedication to the reform agenda, coupled with the clear and principled backing from the European Commission, has ushered in the most fruitful phase of Montenegro’s EU integration thus far. This, he remarked, lays a strong foundation for even greater advancements in the upcoming 18 months.

Reiterating Commissioner Kos’s comments, Ivanović stressed that Montenegro’s aim to finish the negotiation process by the end of 2026 is ambitious yet attainable—and enjoys full backing from the European Commission. If Montenegro continues its current pace of reforms and meets its obligations, it stands a real chance of becoming the next member of the European Union.
